The Gardening Committee, affectionately known as the "dirty fingernail" group, installs and maintains the gardens surrounding our facility: The Heron Garden which sits between the wheelchair ramp and the Washington Ave side of the building; The Peace Pole Garden which surrounds the Peace Pole on Washington Ave. and extends to the area in front of the Channing Hall bay window; The Jones Memorial Garden which is in front of the sanctuary, between the cherry and pine trees, where you can find two beautiful benches for quiet contemplation; and, the West Street Garden which is behind Emerson Hall.

Additional committee members and one time volunteers are most welcome and you get to choose to help with any of the following garden related tasks: spring clean up; summer maintenance; or, putting the beds to bed in the fall. The spring and fall events are scheduled in advance and usually occur on a Saturday. The summer maintenance is handled via a schedule - you can pick one or more weeks to come to FUUSA to deadhead plants and tidy up the gardens. During the week of your choice, you pick the day of the week and the time of day to come in. We encourage two people to sign up for each summer week so no one has to spend more than a couple of hours keeping our house in order, on the outside at least!
